The Enduring Significance of Jumping the Broom

Wedding Profiles - The New York Times (Digital)

The Project: I profiled four couples who jumped the broom on their wedding day plus included little-known history about the African American tradition from a college professor and celebrated author; therefore ensuring that the article delivered fun, as well as, informative content.

My Role: In conducting my reporting for this article, I vetted dozens of couples before narrowing them down to the chosen four and interviewing them on their love story and the distinct reasons they opted to incorporate jumping the broom into their nuptials. In interviewing the expert quoted in introduction, I was careful to keep the information digestible for a broad, mainstream audience.
