Black Beauty Pioneers to Celebrate on Juneteenth and Beyond

Beauty/historical service article - ReflectBeauty.com

The Project: As a nod to Juneteenth, this fact-filled article highlights monumental times in beauty courtesy of Black women – from the uber-resourceful enslaved Africans who brought their intricate braiding skills across the ocean during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade to the brilliance of billionaire business woman, Rihanna.

My Role: I am extremely proud to have pitched this story which my editor immediately loved and allowed me to run with as I saw fit. We so rarely, if ever, get to learn about the masterminds behind the scenes as it relates to beauty trends; especially when those creators are women of color. The Black women featured in this article including Lisa Price and Eunice Johnson, were bold, unapologetic and well ahead of their time. I am grateful I was able to give them their flowers via this digital feature.
